Three Things I Want From Hooping

Here are three things I want from hooping.  They are simple and basic things that I have been itching for in my life.  I have them here and explained in no particular order.

1.  Exercise

I need, as I’ve stated a few times, to get off my butt and get moving.  I need to exercise.  I’m the type of person that needs to be learning something as they exercise to keep me engaged.  I need to be learning a new skill.  In the past, I’ve done acrobatics classes as child as well as swim classes, and as an adult I’ve done kickboxing and martial arts.  All of these things have given me new skills and motivation to do better.  Hooping is not only exercise, it’s a new skill and ability for me to learn and hone.

2.  Play

Good grief, we don’t play enough as adults!  What I mean is actual play you may have done as a kid, things that bring out the kid in you.  Hooping is one of those things, with a more acrobatic adult twist.  As kids, we used to tumble, ride bike, run, hula hoop, and do these things until your mom told you to come in for dinner or it was too dark.  We can still all of these things as adults in a way that engages our adult minds.

3. Community

Hooping has opened up a whole new world for me as a way to meet new people and to introduce hooping to those I already know.  I have made new friends and got a friend into hooping, who in turn has gotten others into hooping!  It’s contagious!  I’ve found a new group of people that I want to get to know and learn from.  It’s a way for me to be social and to get out of my shell and comfort zone.

What do you want from hooping?  What have you gotten out of hooping?
