I will at the Ephrata Arts and Crafts Fest on September 10, 2016 from 9am-3pm in Downtown Ephrata, PA. That’s on 322/Main Street.
Going to be there? Great! Come and visit me. I’ll have hoops for sale, hoops that kids can decorate with sticker packs that I put together for sale, as well, and other cool things to purchase. I’ll also have a big hoop that people can try their hand at hooping with.
Support me and the other vendors by coming on out. There is going to be music, a classic car show, and plenty of talented artisans and crafters there showing off their wares. It should be a great day!
Jen has only been hooping for about two months, but she’s quick study and is doing great. She and her friend Lori joined in for Jenny’s hoop choreography series that was held last month. We did a group routine to the same song, and it’s really cool!
Jen and I are the only ones from the class that are able to be at the recital, so Jenny modified the routine to be a duet. We had to change a few things, but it works, and it works well.
So, it will be fun to do a hoop duet at the recital. Jen, we are going to rock this!
Actually, I have been working on my piece. I decided for my music, I am going to hoop to the song “Starlight” by one of my favorite bands,MUSE. It’s off their album Black Holes and Revelations, and which a fantastic piece of work, so you should check it out.
I’m glad I picked a song I know really really well this time, and one that I really really like. It’s a song that easily broken down into defined sections that can be choreographed quite easily.
I worked on my routine last night in the backyard. It was still hot as blazes in the evening, and tonight isn’t supposed to be much better, but I will still get outside and give it a few runs. I even made a new grippy hoop with engineering grade reflective tape. I hope it looks great when it perform!
Since I love MUSE, and I want you to discover them, too, I made this handy dandy Spotify playlist that you check out some of my favorites, and a good sampling of what they are about.
I also hope to demo hooping by advertising times when I’ll be doing so. Another idea I have is to leave a hoop out for the public to try and share. I might even try busking!
I’m still brainstorming ideas for this, but mostly I’ll sell hoops, demonstrate, and have fun.
This is coordinated through The Art of Recycle, in Ephrata, PA, and they are still looking for crafty vendors. They’ve got hooping covers, but if you have some other craft talents, why not apply?
The day started out rainy, but cleared up beautifully just in time for Lancaster Social Circus Day held at Buchanan Park, Lancaster, PA. It was a rousing success!
My job was to help man the table to sign people in with waivers, but in between attendees, I was able to get some hooping in, being beside the music and all. I had a great time. I think everyone, performers and attendees alike, did, too.
People came in off the streets, people came in from the dog park, and people came because they saw it on Facebook. I believe when performance time rolled around, there were probably about forty people their in attendance.
Ringmaster and organizer Chris Tamburro was ecstatic over the success of this event, which was the first of its type that helped organize. He’s the one in the foreground of the top photo in the red wig and jacket. Well done, Chris!
I think people had a fantastic time playing with hoops, learning to juggle, discovering poi and contact staff, as well as giving acro yoga a try.
I hope this happens again next year.
Here are some more photos of the day that I got on my GoPro. I didn’t get too many, as I was quite busy!
Rebekah of A Joyful Canvas was on hand to paint faces.Hoops for play! One participant tries out acro yoga.
Oh, and here’s some video of parachute play that Jenny Hill of Acts of Jennius brought.
Thank you to everyone who had a part in this, and thank you for letting me help out. The day flew by, and it was evident that a great time was had by all.
There will be presenters there of different circus arts, including juggling, hooping, and acro yoga. Besides performances, you will have the opportunity to learn some of these basic skills for yourself.
The event is being held by the wonderful Jenny Hill and the fantastic Chris Tamburro, both of who are outstanding human beings who love circus arts.
If you are interested in going, please head over to the Facebook event page. There are some things you need to know, and you can see who else will be presenting, too!
